How to choose a mattress on a budget

1. Start with firmness, not price

The right firmness matters more than the price tag. Firm mattresses, which people in the UAE often call medical mattresses, keep the spine straight and suit back sleepers and people with lower back pain. Box top and balanced mattresses feel softer on top and suit side sleepers, whose shoulders and hips need to sink in a little.

2. Get the size right in centimetres

Measure the inside of your bed frame. "Queen" means 160x200 cm at Home Prime but 150x200 cm at some other stores, so always compare in cm. Our UAE mattress size guide lists every size.

3. Think about who sleeps on it, and for how long

A slim, firm mattress is fine for a guest room used a few nights a month. For a bed two adults use every night, choose one of our mid-range mattresses from AED 1,099.

4. Check what the price includes

Ask about delivery, warranty and the return policy before you pay. Our delivery is AED 20 plus AED 1 per kilometre from our warehouse, and we deliver to every emirate.

5. Try it if you can
